WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) — Deidre Week was killed in a hit and run in 1995 while riding her bike. Soon after the incident the case went cold, and 24 years later no one has been charged. But hope has been renewed for her family.
Last week, a new tip came in for a similar cold case involving 22-month-old Jesse Frey. Frey was killed in a hit and run in 1998. That tip, giving hope to the Week’s as well.
“I’ve had more hope than I’ve had in 20-some years,” Deidre’s father David Week said.
Deidre’s father said, they never gave up hope and kept pressure on investigators. He said current Sheriff
Shawn Becker has been more aggressive on cold cases than previous sheriffs.
“I’m really thankful that Sheriff Becker is going this route,” he said.
David said his family keeps Deidre a part of their lives, and they are still active on their Justice for Deidre Facebook page. He said they’re in it for the long haul.
“We think about her everyday, we do things for her. My wife has a big, beautiful garden and it’s a memorial garden for her,” David said.
While he said his family has found a sense of calm after losing their daughter, he’s still waiting for someone to be held accountable.
“I just want him tagged.” he said. “I just want him tagged. This is the guy that did it.”
If you have any information, you can report it to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department or Wood County Crime Stoppers.
