WOOD COUNTY, Wis. (WAOW)-- Thursday marked the 27th anniversary of the day Deidre Week lost her life in a hit and run.

Deidre was just 11-years-old when she was hit by a vehicle while riding her bike. Though the driver got away, law enforcement said they aren't giving up.

"Bottom line, someone knows something and they're living with it," said Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker.

Even decades later, the cold case is not forgotten as Sheriff Becker and his department continue to search for Deidre's killer.

"It's really about the family, they're hurting, they've been hurting for 27 years now. Somebody's living with this, somebody knows information about this case and we're asking them to come forward," Becker said.

Over the years, tips have come and gone, without any real leads. Each lead is checked out, however, just in case.

"Any tip or lead that comes in we follow up on it. All of our investigators are assigned to this case," Becker said.

For Deidre's father, the fact that the investigation is still going on after 27 years means more than words can say.

"It's like you're carrying a load and someone comes and takes half the load. It's helped us out but we've come to adjust to Deidre being gone, but it's just been nice to have someone that cares about this," David Weeks said.

Though the family will never stop searching for answers, they said justice will be served, one way or another.

"You can get it taken care of here and it might help but if you don't and you go on to the hereafter, good luck buddy," Week said.
