The death of 11-year-old Deidre Week, a March 1995 hit and run victim, is still actively under investigation, according to Tom Reichert, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department’s lead investigation on the case.

“We’re still pursuing lead and we’re developing leads on a weekly basis,” Reichert said today.

Currently, the sheriff’s department is “checking into some information we just received, and we’re trying to develop further leads from this information,” he said.

“It would be premature to say this information would potentially solve the case, but it looks good.”

Unfortunately, the same claim could have been made for other bits of information gathered by investigators that did not lead to a solution,” he said.

“It’s an ongoing process, but we’re still getting what we consider to be good information,” Reichert said. “As time passes, it makes the case harder, but not impossible. I believe there was a passenger in the car that struck Deidre, and I believe that passenger may have made statements to other people. I think that’s what will eventually solve the case. A statement from another person.”

From the start of the investigation, the sheriff’s department has encouraged the passenger to come forward.

“It’s important that anyone with knowledge come to us and talk about this,” Reichert said. “This needs to happen so the case can be resolved and the Week family can have some closure.”
