WIS. RAPIDS – Two Wood County Sheriff’s Department investigators continue to search for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed 11-year-old Deidre Week nearly two weeks ago.
Sheriff Brian Illingworth said today that the investigation remains a priority in the department. “Road officers are still looking for vehicles that might fit this bill,” he said.
Investigators are now looking closely at GM products, such as Pontiac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Buick, probably from the year 1983 or 1984, Illingworth said.
The suspect vehicle will “hopefully have damage to the right-hand front fender, headlight or windshield post,” he said. It was described by witnesses as a mid-size car, such as a Chevrolet Celebrity or Oldsmobile Cutlass.
Week died after she was struck while riding a bicycle at about 6:45 p.m. March 24 on County Trunk HH, near her home, just north of Vesper. According to witnesses, the vehicle that struck Week was northbound and did not have its headlights on.
