We have waited nineteen years for the person who killed our daughter, Deidre, to be brought to justice. We will not allow this to become another “Wood County unsolved mystery”! We believe there is a cover-up and it was started by the sheriff at the time, Brian Illingworth. The Good Old Boys of Wood County were aware of what was going on and allowed it to continue. There is a network of deceit and corruption in Wood County that must be stopped!
We were promised a John Doe investigation by Greg Potter who was the DA. That was within the 7 years statute of limitations for a hit-and-run. That never happened. Why? Stories didn’t match, alibies didn’t check out and some people were never questioned. Deidre had civil rights! The right to a proper and untainted investigation. We should be able to trust in our law enforcement to do what is right! This was a vehicular homicide which has no statute of limitations!
The people in the car, who hit Deidre, and the driver of the 2nd car, know exactly what happened that day. Why did they run? Drinking? Drugs? They were more concerned about themselves than the life of our little girl! They left Deidre in a ditch of water and sped off to start weaving their lies together. Deidre’s bike was on the road at least a city block distance from where she was found. If you look at Wood County’s record map of the scene, they have the bike near her. Who moved the bike? This is significant information! Why hasn’t that been checked out? Did the driver in the 2nd car move it when he came back to the scene in a supposedly different car? Why did he change cars? The horror of that evening, and what Deidre went through continues to haunt us. Yes, we want answers! The whole thing stinks!
Sheriff Tom Reichert stated in a recent article by The Daily Tribune and Marshfield News Herald that, “Any suggestions of impropriety on the part of the Wood County Sheriff’s Department is unfounded and a political stunt in nature”! Mr. Reichert, this is not politically motivated, this is personal! It’s about Deidre! Drop the political excuse!
The case study was done on Deidre’s case from an unidentified author, and which was recently posted by Steve Abrahamson, states the facts. The case study puts the facts and people involved together in a timeline that makes sense. Why didn’t Sheriff Illingworth and Tom Reichert do that?! Tom Reichert was the main investigator!
We don’t want Tom Reichert as the sheriff of Wood County because he hasn’t done his job. He associates personally with the people who are main suspects in Deidre’s case! This is clearly a “conflict of interest”! Brian Illingworth did the same thing. This is not acceptable! Everyone including Tom Reichert and Brian Illingworth should be held accountable! And where was Brian Illingworth on March 24th, 1995?
We want to know why Wood County vehicles are serviced regularly at one of the main suspects’ businesses. Why was a Wood County squad car, with its trunk open, recently parked in these main suspects open home garage? What is going on here? Conflict of interest, again! Why do no other car businesses service Wood County vehicles? It is time to check records at the County Treasurer’s Office to see who is supporting who! Maybe it IS political! Tom Reichert, Brian Illingworth and The Good Old Boys are the ones who have sullied and clouded Deidre’s case! Tom Reichert’s real concern, clearly, is not for all the families, like he states in the newspaper!
Our faith in God and support of many friends and family has given us strength over the years. We miss Deidre so much and can only imagine the beautiful young lady she would be today. We know she is safe in heaven.
Thank you to everyone who has offered their help to bring this all to light again. The support has been overwhelming and so appreciated! There is power in numbers! We are always open to hear from anyone who wants to come forward with information on Deidre’s case.
Please continue to visit the website, www.justicefordeidreweek.com and her Facebook page. Join us on September 15th, 8am-5pm in front of the Wood County courthouse for a peaceful demonstration. We need a John Doe investigation!
Deidre had civil rights and we intend to pursue this until all the liars are exposed and we get answers!
There will be Justice For Deidre!
Brenda and David Week, parents of Deidre.
