TOWN OF HANSEN – Brenda and David Week don’t want the community to forget their daughter.
“We are putting a huge pink sign in our yard that says, ‘Justice For Deidre.’” Brenda Week said Tuesday. “It’s for the person who did it. I know that person must still drive by on this road.”
Deidre, 11, died after she was struck March 24 while riding her bicycle on County Trunk HH, north of Vesper. She was a short distance from home when a vehicle struck her from behind and left the scene.
There are also ribbons of pink, Deidre’s favorite color, in the trees in the front yard of the Week home. In the back yard, the family has built a memorial for friends and relatives to visit.
“We’ve been working on it for two months,” Mrs. Week said. It is what kept me partly sane.”
The memorial includes a pond with a recirculating waterfall and was built near Deidre’s fort, a spot where she liked to play.
The family also had 500 “Justice For Deidre” bumper stickers printed in hot pink. The Print Shop, 3031 Plover Road, Wisconsin Rapids, donated 250 of the bumper stickers. Anyone interested in one can call the Week family at ….
“We have been handing them out ourselves, so we know people will use them,” Mrs. Week said.

A cat walks down the steps of a memorial to their daughter, Deidre, in the backyard of the David and Brenda Week residence in the town of Hansen, near Vesper. Relatives and friends can visit the memorial to remember their time with the 11-year-old girl who was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
